Graceful Leadership, Main Salmon River Retreat Day-by-Day

The Day Before

Tuesday, August 1

We’ll meet in McCall, Idaho, get settled and acquainted with refreshments on the deck of the resort lodge. At 6:00PM, our partner rafting outfitter arrives to provide dry bags for packing and a rafting orientation. 7:00PM, dinner and goddess introductions at the lodge. 9:00PM, return to our rooms to enjoy a good night’s sleep for the adventure ahead!

Days 1–6

August 2 – 7

We’ll depart McCall on an amazingly scenic small plane flight to Salmon, ID (approximately 55 minutes).      Upon arrival, we will drive approximately 2-hours to our put-in at Corn Creek. The first day’s whitewater action includes rapids like Killum and Gunbarrel.

The surrounding scenery immediately transfixes us, and for the duration of our trip, we’re mesmerized by the beauty of the Salmon River canyon and the 2.3 million-acre Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. This broad canyon is heavily forested with towering pines and conifers. Each morning presents a new day within a river routine; hot drinks are ready by 7:00AM, sunrise meditation or yoga may be offered if you choose to take part, breakfast is served around 8:00AM. We will fall into rhythm with the river, breaking down camp and loading boats most mornings and enjoying new scenery and excitement as we float 2-4 hours each day. In the evenings, we gather to share perspectives on topics related to “Graceful Leadership”! The river environment provides daily opportunities to awaken to the brightest expression of ourselves through activities like taking a turn in an inflatable kayak, cliff jumping, silent observation of nature and hiking.

One of the trip days we will indulge in a layover day.  A layover day provides the opportunity to wake up and remain in camp, rather than breaking down camp and getting on the boats.  A layover day offers time for long hikes, refreshing swims and exploring creativity through watercolor painting, journaling and any other activity that the moment presents – definitely a dance party with costumes provided!

Last river day. We wake up to the usual morning ritual but take time to honor the awakened Diva in all of us with a closing circle. As we reach the take-out, we’ll say farewell to the river and our guides and travel by van back to McCall, about 1 1⁄2-2  hours.  It may be possible to catch a flight to Boise this evening, however, we recommend staying overnight in McCall and flying out the next morning so we can celebrate our Diva Tribe one more night!

Back in McCall and off the river, we’ll enjoy a hot shower and farewell dinner at the hotel where our journey began.  Don’t forget to pack your favorite sundress for dinner, lakeside at a restaurant where we toast our amazing journey!  After dinner, a good night’s sleep in a welcome hotel bed and we travel home in the morning.

The Day After

August 8

In the morning we’ll travel home. Group shuttles are often arranged from McCall to Boise. We can help you to plan an itinerary that works for you.

Post-Trip Connection

Parting is “such sweet sorrow,” but you have awakened a Shakti Leader and integrated her into your very being. She will remind you of the laughter and camaraderie of your river experience forever. After the trip, we create group connection on social media and find ways to bring the tribe back together.   We may find a group service project, organize gatherings around the full moon or celebrate life events together.  The connections formed on the trip transcend one retreat.

meet your retreat leader

Aimee Cullwick, Founder, Retreat Leader

Having spent recent years in a down-turn of “mommy martyrdom”, taking care of everyone but herself, Aimee sought to reawakening her wild side by leading multi-day river trips for women. With 20+ years of experience as a raft guide and kayaker, Aimee gypsied the globe after college seeking river tribes throughout North, Central and South America.  She experienced rebirth rowing gear boats through the Grand Canyon,  married a merman of a Kiwi and even became an English Teacher with a traveling high school for whitewater kayakers!

Aimee has intimate knowledge of the camaraderie, natural beauty and spiritual connection that only river trips can provide. Though her experience as a raft guide began as an adventurous pursuit, helping clients feel safe on all classifications of whitewater, she soon realized that the true journey on a river is within one’s consciousness.

As one of four sisters and mother to three daughters, Aimee was inspired to create a space to honor relationships among women where they can play, laugh, dance and cry in a natural setting that inspires growth and connection. It became clear that river trips provide the perfect backdrop to bring women in-tune with their feminine power, rediscover their creative wisdom and celebrate all aspects of sisterhood.

Aimee has a masters degree in education and certifications in  Spiritual Psychology and Soul-Centered Life Coaching from the University of Santa Monica. She is also the proud owner of one of the most coveted costume closets in the world!!

about the main salmon

Beginning high in Idaho’s rugged Sawtooth Mountains, the Salmon flows through a vast wilderness in one of the deepest gorges on the continent.  It is best know for its big canyon, sandy beaches, and big water rapids. There are great hikes from each of the camps up side creeks and along the canyon.  This rugged canyon provides habitat for an abundant wildlife from MANY bald eagles and osprey, to Bighorn sheep, elk, deer and black bears.  The river has rapids ranging from Class I to class IV whitewater with a pace that allows for ample reflection time amid high adventure rapids.
